About Bryl Tyne Bryl R. Tyne is a wrangler by nature and a writer by choice. Balancing as many pronouns as hats, somewhere between the evil day job, editing, and helping a benevolent Sugar Daddy raise the last two of seven kids, Bryl writes. Homoerotic romance is a favorite, but many of Bryl's stories cross genres. Comedy, fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, horror, even Westerns, Bryl writes them all.

"...from what I've seen, this author's chosen are almost inevitably the misfits, the square pegs in the round holes, the lost lambs. Indeed, Bryl Tyne could well be the poet laureate of the outsider." ~ Victor J. Banis

An Interview with Bryl Tyne
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Bryl, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Rite of Passage. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling tale of one man with trust issues and another determined to prove himself trustworthy?BT: You always start out with the toughest questions. When I first sat down to write Rite of Passage, I saw it as somewhat of a reversal to Stephen King's Misery. Where King's flawed character is the stalker, I wondered what it would be like to make a similar situation but with the flawed character being the main character and the "stalker" being the "good guy"-- of course, as opposed to horror, the story is a romance.
HH: What can you tell us about John and why will readers be drawn to him? BT: John's been abused by an ex lover and left for normal. He now suffers from severe panic attacks, debilitating to a point. We all know what it's like to get our heart broken. I think anyone who's been hurt deeply in any relationship might understand where John's coming from, maybe not to his extreme, for most of us have coping skills, but the overall lack of trust that is the main issue is something most people have experienced.
HH: What can you tell us about Pat and why will readers love him? BT: Pat is walking confidence. There's not a shy or backward bone in his body. He knows what he wants, and he's not afraid to go after it, even if that means he has to climb up a trellis and break into a second floor bedroom window to get it.
HH: In your opinion, because you do characterization so well, what sort of characters are readers drawn to today? BT: From what I've read on groups and loops, readers are drawn to characters who ooze Alpha, and who would do anything to rescue a seemingly helpless beta. Personally, and speaking as a reader, I find my favorite characters being those who have dragged themselves from the pits of depravity to be the amazing souls they are today. Unfortunately, most of my characters I write tend to be characters I would also enjoy reading about, as opposed to those the majority of readers would like. My characters are oftentimes equals, regardless of individual weaknesses and strengths or any other circumstances, and though my characters are always extremely flawed, usually, no one needs "rescuing," not to the extreme that I would stick a "beta" label on any one of them. So, to answer your question: what sort of characters are readers drawn to today? Obviously, not mine.
HH: What else do you have in the works? BT: I'm currently working on a novella for the Timeless Desire Noble Romance November blog tour, also working on a series with author Brita Addams, and I'm rolling around the ideas for the sequel to Tough Guy, my modern gay cowboy rom com at Amber Allure. This month, I have a free story in the Goodreads M/M Romance group's Hot July Days anthology. I believe around a hundred authors participated in writing stories from prompts supplied by avid readers of the genre. My story titled, Alipio, written for a reader named Jacqueline, is among those. Be sure to pick up your free copy over at Goodreads.
HH: Do you own an ebook reader or read on an electronic device? BT: If so, what? Not yet, but my oldest kid is sold on the new Kindle and is working on swaying me.
HH: As a romance reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer?
BT: I like the romance "light", as in I'm not into reading about a budding relationship that grows over ups and downs for chapters upon end until finally, the characters fall in love, no. I'm more into the cross-genre books, like romantic suspense or comedy where the romance is secondary or most times already established, and we get to go along with those characters through an amazing story.
HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
BT: Not sure. I'm less inclined to feel guilt these days.
HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your career this year? BT: I would be happy to finish all my current projects.
HH: Any vacation or appearance plans this summer? BT: Myrtle Beach for July 4th weekend so the boys get a vacation this summer, and I'll be at the Gay Rom Lit retreat in October in New Orleans. I'm excited. I've never been to New Orleans and am thrilled for the opportunity to meet readers along with many of my favorite authors.
HH: Thank you! Have an awesome time!
