Louisa Bacio

Raised by an over-controlling and manipulative father, Savannah "Van" Morgan flees the East Coast for the West, seeking sanctuary with her Aunt Lucy, headmistress of San Francisco Sex University. Rather than staying at the main campus, Van enrolls in SFSU's more nurturing "sister" school, the All-Girls Academy.

After visiting the main campus of SFSU, Margaret "Maggie" O'Neil hangs up her police badge in search of new experiences and hoping to awaken her own dormant sexuality.

An Interview with Louisa Bacio
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Louisa, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is All-Girls Academy and part of the Sex University series. What can you tell us about the steamy series to start with?

LB: The story takes place at a sex school, where student enroll to learn more about their own sexuality or to explore some of their fantasies. While the main campus, San Francisco Sex University, which is featured in my first book Physical Education, pushes the limits with light BDSM, All-Girls Academy is set in Berkeley at a residential boarding house.

The All-Girls Academy offers that open environment with only other women around. Some may be there because it takes the pressure off not being around the opposite sex, and others may prefer the company of women.

HH: How did you come to be part of this sensation series at Ravenous Romance?

LB: I sold a few stories to Ravenous Romance as part of anthologies. Editorial Director Lori Perkins asked if I had any ideas for a longer piece, and I had been working on the first book, Sex University: Physical Education for a while. Toward the end of that book, I knew the character of Margaret, "Maggie," was only just developing. She returns in this novel, All-Girls Academy.

HH: What can you tell us about Van and why will readers identify with her?

LB: Savannah, Van, grew up in a strict, suppressive household that didn't believe in sexual freedoms. Fortunately, she had the support of her Aunt Lucy, who is the founder of SFSU. As Van reaches her own maturity, and adulthood, she comes to the All-Girls Academy to find herself.

HH: What can you tell us about Maggie and why will readers love her?

LB: Maggie is a bit of a quandary: As a police detective, she sees much of the unpleasantness of life. After working to break a crime ring that takes place in the first novel -- which I won't spoil here -- Maggie first gets introduced to SFSU. While on the outside, she's gruff and works in a male-dominated force, inside she's much more feminine and ultimately wants to find happiness and love.

HH: Is a love between two women a hard sell in a market flooded with M/M stories?

LB: Although the market has been flooded with M/M stories, F/F definitely deserves and possesses its own niche, too. My stories have been featured in two F/F anthologies, I Kissed A Girl: A Virgin Lesbian Anthology and Sugar & Spice: A Collection of Kinky Girl-on-Girl Stories, and both of those have done well.

Now, if we could get male readers to like F/F stories as much as female readers like M/M, then we'd be set.

HH: What else do you have in the works?

LB: Right now I'm working on the sequel to my erotic paranormal threesome, The Vampire, The Witch & The Werewolf: A New Orleans Threesome. The new book, Chains of Silver focuses more on Trevor's, the werewolf, sister Silver. She's facing transformational changes herself, and also coming into conflict with her love interest, Nick, who happens to be a vampire hunter.

The key -- I'm finding -- is balancing her storyline with that of my original three characters. It should be out this fall.

HH: Do you own an ebook reader or read on an electronic device? If so, what?

LB: Currently, I have one of the original Kindles, and I'm super-jealous of my husband who has a newer, slender, sexy model. But, mine still works extremely well so I haven't seen a reason to justify purchasing one. I also have an iPad, and finally I've downloaded the Kindle app to my iPhone, so really I could be reading just about anywhere.

HH: As a romance reader, what sort of stories do you personally prefer?

LB: Strong characters, a believable conflict and total passion. I want a story that will make me long for the characters' happiness, and if it's erotic, I want a story that's hot and pushes the limits.

HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

LB: Laying by a luxury hotel poolside, with a vodka and cranberry juice cocktail, and reading an addictive book. Must add that it needs to be comfortably hot. The weather tends to get cool and breezy if I have a vacation planned. (And to be a truly "guilty pleasure," someone else has to be playing with my kids in the pool!)

HH: Any vacation or appearance plans this summer?

LB: In October, I’ll be attending the GayRomLit Retreat in New Orleans (http://gayromlit.com). It falls right around my birthday, and offers the perfect excuse to go back to the Big Easy.

HH: Thank you!
