An Interview with Elenna Tylor
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Elenna, thank you so much for talking with us. Your featured book is Win By Default. First, where did you get the idea for this emotionally charged story?

ET: I have no real recollection of precisely how it came about, just that I wanted to create a story that was a real emotional roller-coaster ride, and according to the readers that have seen it prior to release, it definitely does that. The dynamic wasn't preset in my mind, and I let the characters tell me who they were and what they needed to be. It wasn't even a conscious choice to make this a m/m romance, that was just the direction it took.

HH: What do you like about the Jason and why will readers relate to him?

ET: Jason is the earnest, sincere young lover who's discovering his whole world has changed in way he could never have imagined, all because he fell in love with someone he could never have anticipated loving. The fact that it's someone from his father's shadowy world makes for some interesting overtones to it all, as well.

HH: What do you like best about Devon?

ET: His worldliness is very appealing, but more than that is his devotion to Jason. Devon's been around the world and around the block in emotional terms. He's used his body and his sexuality as a weapon in the espionage field, and has the reputation of a real lady killer. When he falls in love with the son of one of his partners, no one is more surprised than he is, but for the first time, he's willing and ready to risk everything for an honest love. He wants to be everything Jason sees in him, and he's determined to protect his young lover at all costs.

HH: Jason's father plays an important role in this story. What can you tell us about him?

ET: He's an ex intelligence operative, his relationship with his son has been estranged for a long time, and the involvement with Devon has added some new twists to what is a tentative father-son peace. He loves Jason, but they've only just started to really know each other. While Jason's dad accepts his son's relationship with Devon, he also worries because now the young man is a target for not only his father's enemies, but his lover's past could kill him, too. So a lot of fears being addressed in ways.

HH: In your opinion, what is the key to good romantic story no matter who the main characters are?

ET: Honest love and respect between your leads has to be present. If you have that, then anything you throw at them can be overcome. That passion will conquer all, and it will make readers fall in love with what you're giving them.

HH: What else do you have in the works for lucky readers?

ET: Nothing close to being finished, but a few new tales that might be worth submitting. I like the genre of thrillers, and I like these characters, so I think there could be an entire series of stories waiting to be told here. I hope so. If readers like Jason and Devon, I know I can offer them more adventures with these characters.

HH: How do you balance a writer career with the rest of your life?

ET: It's not always easy. Mostly I have evenings to write, and it means late nights and early mornings, certainly not the best combination of things.

HH: If you weren't a writer, you'd be a...?

ET: I have a head for numbers and law, so maybe a lawyer??

HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

ET: Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! I hate to miss them!! I'm so sad....

HH: What is your biggest hope for 2011?

ET: That the year brings everyone something to smile about, and something they've always wished for. 2010 was so miserable for so many people.... would be nice to have a mostly happy year!

Thanks so much for this opportunity to chat with everyone! I hope you all enjoy the book, and would love to hear from you! I don't have a website yet, but my blog is up, and there's a contact on it!

HH: Thank you!
