| Things haven't been the same for the Cadogan House since Ethan -- the leader of the vampire house's -- death. Still working as Sentinel for the house for now, Merit has been pushing herself through her grief, aiming to solve the city's problems which include the sky turning red and Lake Michigan becoming pitch black. And on top of it all, the new mayor is threatening a paranormal registration act that could endanger all supernaturals.
For this vampire series by Ms. Neill, each book has become more and more exciting. The plot was very fast-paced, and dealt with a lot of different issues that affect Merit's life which I was glad to read. The dialogue was excellent, as it drew me in from the beginning not only because of Merit's grief but the way the other vampires dealt with their Master's death. The sex scene right at the end was mild, but just right because Merit deserved happiness and she'd only ever found that with one person. Not that I'm giving anything away just in case others haven't read this series and wish to. What I like so much about Merit is how she takes her job as Sentinel so seriously, and will do anything for her friends. Especially those that have found themselves in trouble which has left it wide open for the next book in the series to explore. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book not only for its plot but the amazing secondary characters that helped Merit to fight the battles the city was facing, and not let her drown in her grief for Ethan. I would recommend this series to fans of the paranormal genre, and especially those that love a strong-willed heroine. Plus, there's an exciting twist that more than makes up for the sad ending from the previous installment of this series and to is going to make for an exciting next adventure.
