Fiona takes a research job to get away from the man who betrayed her. She has heard the stories about men from the sea, but does not believe them until she meets one. Ronan is called from the depths of the sea to Fiona and instantly falls in love. He wants to stay with her, but as a Selkie, he is bound to the sea and must return after seven days. As the days go by, he feels he cannot live without her and tells her to hide his pelt so that he can stay with her forever. Will Fiona risk everything for love? Or will she make the greatest sacrifice for it? Although this is not my usual type of book, I found the characters to be sweet and enduring. You feel a kinship to Fiona as well as to Ronan, but pretty much know in the beginning how it will end. There is a surprising twist when Ronan decides to leave the sea forever and Fiona has a hard decision to make for the love of her life. She must decide if it is worth it to watch Ronan become something else in order to be with her or if she will let him go so that he can live a full life and return to her when he can. Overall, this was a sweet and enduring read for many readers who love the time honored star-crossed lovers. Overall rating:
