Jovie Andrews works for Romantic Escapes (wedding planning) and she is almost desperate for a raise or a promotion. Her direct supervisor is Clinton, the man who dumps his work on her desk all the time and won’t think about giving her the raise or promotion if she doesn’t have some form of sexual relations with him. Yes, he’s a sleazebag. What’s worse than him is their boss Dan. He’s also a sleazebag, but just a different flavor. Clinton is tired of Jovie turning him down all the time so he tells Dan she can turn old contracts into gold, and yes, this is a newer and fresher version of Rumpelstiltskin.

Being locked into a conference room with a box of old contracts and an old tea set, poor Jovie just doesn’t know what to do! As she’s thinking about her options she mindlessly starts to polish the creamer…and that is when suddenly Rand appears! Ms. Sookoo has given us a really nice twist to the old faire tale. I love the way she describes both Clinton and Dan, and of course it is hysterical how she describes Jovie thinking she’s lost her mind. Rand has been trapped in that creamer for a century and would really like to be free. In exchange for her earrings and necklace he agrees to help her with the old contracts. He also helps her (free of charge) learn to stand up for herself and love herself.

Of course, Rand tells her over and over there will be a price to pay. I figured it out way before Jovie did, but that’s because I’m not her. Ms. Sookoo kept me on the edge of my seat for the last half of the story, just waiting to see how it would turn out! I enjoy all of her works I have read, and this one is no different! It is a fantastic version of the old tale! Jovie is a truly wonderful heroine (although there were a few moments I thought she was a twit) and I loved the relationship she and Rand have! I own almost all of Ms. Sookoo’s novellas and this just makes me want to read more!
